The Glass Castle of Pain
Alcoholism, manipulation and neglect color the pages of The Glass Castle, a best-selling memoir written by Jeannette Walls. In it, she describes the hardships she faced throughout her childhood, forced to take care of herself to substitute the somewhat lack of care her parents provided. Though Walls initially distances herself far from her parents in order to thrive despite them as she tries to build a career and a social life, her efforts to forgive her parents and bring her family back together create a strong bond that brings them closer than she could have ever imagined. This process, however, had proved to be a very arduous one, affecting the author both mentally and physically in many different ways. To achieve success despite her poor situation, Walls was forced to endure a lot of stress and overcome the pain caused by her parent’s thoughtlessness. This stress manifested itself in many different forms, affecting Walls in many different ways, creating both different mental and emotional obstacles for her to overcome.
Psychological pain; mental 1 or emotional 2suffering or torment: At the start of the book, we notice that Jeannette Walls, the author, is living a good life. She finally has gotten her career together and she is going to a party in a taxi when she notices a woman with gray hair and odd clothing. It was her mother, Rosemary Walls, going through Dumpsters searching for items of interest. She (Jeannette) felt very embarrassed by her mother and she didn’t want to be seen by her. She slides down the seat of the car, and then asks her taxi driver to turn around and take her home (3-4). This shows that, in her mind, she wants nothing to do with her mother at that time thinking that the well-to-do folks at the party would think badly of her. Later on when she arrives at her apartment, she cannot seem to enjoy herself simply because of the fact her parents are living on the streets. We can only imagine the things she was actually thinking at the moment, but for now let us move a little deeper.
1.      Mental: Take notice of when stated earlier that she does not want to be seen by both her mother or the party goers and asks her taxi driver to take her home instead of going to the party. We can assume that in her mind she still cares about her mother as she invites her for some seafood dinner (5). As they sit down Jeannette asks her mother what she wants to help change her life when she flips it around saying, “I’m fine. You’re the one who needs help. Your values are all confused.” This statement obviously shook her in some way that she told her mother she was ashamed of her further proving Rose’s point.
2.      Emotional: When the two were almost done eating Jeannette asks a question that not a lot of readers will understand at first until finishing the memoir; “And what am I supposed to tell people about my parents?” Rose counters with “Just tell the truth. That’s simple enough.” Try to put yourself, the reader, in Jeannette’s shoes. How could you answer that question? Despite Rose’s position, she will not accept anything monetary that Jeannette attempts to offer her. The reader can only imagine the emotional stress and confusion that Jeannette had to deal with during her time with her mother. Being that Rose is a woman of strong will and integrity she will not accept handouts and that puts Jeannette in a tough situation. The feeling of emotional stress was obviously going through Jeannette’s mind while she was holding a conversation with her mother because she is experiencing modes of guilt.
 Physical pain; physical suffering or distress, as due to injury, etc.:
The memoir The Glass Castle is riddled with physical suffering.  During Jeannette’s childhood she was forced to endure a variety of hardships that most children would not believe could happen to them. At the age of three, Jeannette experienced severe burns on her torso while attempting to cook hot dogs. Now this kind of experience is very unique being that a child her age already cooking food for herself, even though most parents would never let their child near a stove or anything dealing with gas appliances. Being burned to the degree that one would need skin grafts would obviously be a very physically painful experience to go through especially as a child. In addition to this experience, Jeannette encounters several physical altercations in different schools being a victim of bullying and harassment from other students her age who picked on her for her odd disposition and the way she grew up. Furthermore, throughout the book we see instances where Jeannette and her siblings were forced to endure malnutrition due to their parents’ inability to provide food for the family. There were plenty of instances where the Walls children had to go out and search for their own food to feed themselves. Something like that does not come very often to most families where the parents are responsible. When Jeannette confronts her mother about being hungry, her mother responds in a manner where most people would consider irresponsible “It’s not my fault if you’re hungry.” (69).
Although Jeannette and her siblings experience a wide variety of painful events in their childhood, they are able to overcome each one of their experiences and become successful. We can see how Jeannette Walls used her times as a child growing in a world of poverty to produce a memoir that in itself is helpful to readers in the fact that it actually describes in detail how much a family in poverty goes through and the things she had to go through to become what she is today; a successful author who was able to take a painful childhood and turn it into something positive for others to experience. Most people who writes or have written a memoir write about things of inner turmoil and flip it into something everyone can connect with, which is what Jeannette Walls did. She overcame hardships to become what she is today. Sometimes confronting your pain is the best way of letting it go.

Magneto vs Zero is10-0 frrrraaaayyy

Not really, but the match up itself I believe is 6-4 in Magneto's favor because of how well Magneto can control the air by himself with p-link dash magnetic blasts to stop Zero from doing lightning and buster level 3.

I found this out yesterday with a friend of mine who tried to do lightning loop on me and ended up getting constant magnetic blasts in his face. With the right assists for Magneto (Missiles, Drones, Arrows), Zero will never be able to get and we all know that as soon as he gets touched once, he's gone.

No more Zero =P

Seriously though, Zero is a good match up for Magneto simply because he isn't as good as everyone makes him out to be and that just means everybody else is free to Zero. They don't know about the simple shit that you can do to keep Zero out and stop his shenanigans from even starting.

Zero's air Heavy is in no way, shape or form godlike because of the very tiny gaps within each hit of the normal. In between each minute gap, you can grab him out of it, but you have to be careful when doing this (obviously) or Zero WILL fuck your shit up and do it for one bar easily.

Another thing I've noticed people forget about because they're so busy concentrating on "Man Zero is just too fucking gdlk I can't do anything.". Well I'm sorry sir, but you're a fucking pussy. Neutral jump holding up back Heavy is fucking genius in Magneto's case and I don't know why people don't do it more often. Is it because of the illusion that he's invincible during lightning or what?

I've noticed that when people didn't read the guide they make very vague assumptions about a match up and just say fuck the frame data when it would actually do them some good just to do a little research on it.

Notice that his standing "Light" is 12 frames of recovery and is both negative on hit or guard, but not by much. You know that most Zero's start charging Buster shot, which is when after it's been fully charged and shot at you he is in recovery for 23 frames(15 in the air). Holy shit right?

Nightmare is top tier. #GDLK

Even though I lost 7-24 with Nightmare (i'm playing on pad and i suck at blocking), this character is too good.

His f+B on counter is the best move he has because it leads into what I call a dirty combo. It's his standard f+B xx K xx d+AB and then when they ss, you do ss+BB etc

Alright so I've been "spying" ( lol ) on my fellow Swagnus' and Padneto Bros on the SRK forums and I have to say they've got some very nice technology out. Like midscreen EMP combo??? Yeah that shit is going to hurt a lot of characters;

UMvC3 Magneto is A-Tier and Zero is too, 2

Wesker, Gunshot[otg]; In all honesty, the thing this assists shines on the most is adding the ability for magneto to otg after a long ass combo, as well as setting up unblockables. Other than that, it's just a "win more" option on the team.

UMVC3 Magneto is top A-tier and Zero is too. =3(NSFW)

Well I've been hearing a lot of shit lately about how Zero beats out everything any and everybody throws out. I, and several others disagree with that statement wholeheartedly with the basic fact that Zero's buttons are at the moment vastly overrated.

Since a good Zero will always have his charge on jab for the buster, his faster normal (crouching) is going to be crouch short (Medium) which is -5 on block while at the same time Magneto's fastest crouching normal and in the air are both positive on hit or block with durability meaning you can trijump short/low and beat out Zero's jumping fierce cleanly and then convert into a combo for the kill.

In a way I think Magneto is good during the first few moments in the beginning but gets really dangerous mid to late game as the other player usually plays (if you're using Magneto correctly) more offbeat so to speak.

And what I mean is that when you still have drones, missiles, or any good lockdown/zoning assists, don't forget that Magneto does great damage mid and on anchor status, his damage is in the MvC2 range in my personal opinion.

In anchor spot after doing, let's say 620k no meter into an OS/Throw, cancel into Xfactor into Magnetic blast variant and hyper grav loop, that's literally 10-15 hits that will kill anybody. Almost as easy as Wesker xfactor herp derp, but more brains needed lol

The assists to consider using when playing Magneto (especially Doom/Sent) are(gonna add a little note for each one);


  • Sentinel Drones (alpha); this has been one of the staple assists used by Magneto for 10 years now and the reason why is because (MvC2 UMvC3) the assists ability to put the opponent in such a long rate of blockstun while having to lookout for Magneto's trijump pressure is just too good to pass up.
  • Sentinel Drones (beta, Bombs/Drone); this is actually a very good assist for corner lockdown concerning Magneto because unlike his other two assists, these particular drones, on active frames stay out when Sentinel is hit. Plus the fact that it's hitting high and low is a great plus for Magneto Magnetic Blast corner pressure.
  • Doctor Doom, Plasma Beam; This is a good assist on it's own, but when paired with Magneto, I've noticed that of all the beam assists I used to combo extenders/resets that it scales heavily  and we as Magneto players is not something you'd want in an assist. Good for midscreen mixup as it stays on the screen for a good bit (similar to Unibeam).
  • Doctor Doom, Hidden Missiles; Oh my god this assist is SOOOOOO FUCKING AMAZING!!!!! Well for starters Doom is already far in the back so they won't notice him half the time if you're dashing in the air quick enough (~~:piano method. repeat brackets until fly is done [qcb+s L~M~H up forward L~M~H down forward L~M~H] ) and if you're in the corner, the potential for lockdown and resets are even higher. Very abusable assist.
  • Doctor Doom, Rocks: Somewhat average anti air assist compared to his Hidden Missiles which do the same thing, but it's like "Why pick that one when this one is much better?" well I'll tell you why; this assists speed and durability are incredible for midscreen mix up/reset potential and in the corner you can set up a nice double reset off it something Missiles can't do.
